Alaska, July '12

Well folks, here it is! The long awaited Alaska update. For those of you who don't already know, it's always been a dream of ours to take a trip to Alaska. So, when it came time to start planning our yearly vacation we knew it just had to be to Alaska. We spent MONTHS preparing for our cruise... looking up cruise lines, planning excursions, and of course getting ready for all of the amazing sights that would soon blow our minds!
We ended up choosing Norwegian Cruise lines, and planned on four stops in port... three in Alaskan and one in Victoria, BC. Our first stop was Ketchikan followed by Juneau and then the long awaited Skagway. Because it was our first cruise and our very first trip to Alaska, we decided against booking all of our time in port doing excursions and planned to sight see instead. I must say, I'm totally glad we did; the sights were absolutely amazing, there wasn't one view that I wouldn't consider absolutely breathtaking!
I'm sure you could all guess which excursion we ended up doing... dog sledding! I can't even begin to tell you how excited we were for this. On the morning of, we were like two kids on Christmas eve... sooo excited! Our trip to the mushers camp was topped off when we learned that our musher was Greg Sellentin, of mushing.com
Anywho, enough talk... on to the pictures!

Khanlie started her show career in June 2012 and did pretty well for a first timer. She earned her UKC Champion title in September '13.
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

Meet Cooper :)

Kim had been drooling over Sheltie puppies for MONTHS before Coop came to join us, and he’s definitely been all that she could ever dream of in a dog. You name it, he’ll do it… especially if treats are involved! Cooper is a standout member of our pack, and has been an absolute delight to have around the house!

December 4, 2001

Dam: GRCH ‘PR’ La Femme Nakita
Sire: CH ‘PR’ Toy Boy of Peyton

Little Miss Zoe Danae came to us on February 11, 2002 and quickly became Mommy’s little angel. She began her show career in September of 2002, but we quickly realized that it was just not for her. She’s quite happy keeping an eye on things at home!

The Serenity Cove Kids

I first found out about this breed in August of 2001 while surfing the web. I instantly knew that this was the breed for me. I got on a waiting list and was shocked to find out in February of 2002 that a puppy was available to me. We drove to pick up Zoe two weeks later, and the rest is history. Zoe is mommy baby and she knows it. Kassia came along not quite 1 year later. Then, just four months later we brought home our first male, Keegan. Cooper, our sheltie, came during the Christmas holiday of 2003 and Luka, our 2nd male AKK came in January, 2004. We had our first litter of AKK in March of 2004 and our Nickelson Layne was born in that litter. We had our second litter in January of 2005 and that's when our little Lacee Lu joined the pack. We just couldn't bare to part with her! Kambry came to us from Karen Street of AliAK Kennels in August, 2005. We chose her from her litter at five weeks of age and were thrilled when she joined us at nine-weeks-old. She was our first blue-eyed beauty. Kanon followed Kambry from AliAK not quite a year later. Little miss Ava Rose was born in Lacee and Kanon's first litter and tried out a new home before deciding she liked Maryland best of all. We're thrilled with her decision! In January of 2008, Karen sent me a picture of a gorgeous little girl and it didn't take me long to figure out she was going to be the newest addition to the household. Brylee’s addition brought us to eleven dogs; and coined our title of “The Crazy Dog Family” with all of our neighbors.
Once Brylee arrived, we spent a lot of our time focusing on our dogs and their show careers, while also raising a litter or two here and there. Kim left for school at Frostburg State University in August, 2008 absolutely heartbroken that she’d have to leave her best friends behind. It wasn’t until August, 2010 that Nicky and Luka could join her in her new off campus home. After the boys joined Kim in Frostburg, all was right in the world… We were happy, and so were our dogs! In September of 2011, Kim and Scott decided it was time for them to add a new member to their pack; this is where Khanlie, the Siberian husky, comes in. She, too, came from Karen Street! In the fall of 2012 we contacted Karen about stud services, and flew Toast out a few weeks later. We automatically fell in love with him and decided that we just had to make him ours... he flew back to Maryland for good in January 2013 and now lives with Luka, Nicky, and Khanlie in Western MD.
This brings us to the present, we’re currently at 13 dogs and sailing steady. Feel free to click on each of their pictures, located to the right, to learn more about them!

About the Breed

The Alaskan Klee Kai were developed in Alaskan by Linda Spurlin and her family. Spurlin worked for nearly 20 years in order to reach their expectations for the breed before making them available to the public in 1988.

The Alaskan Klee Kai are, in essence, a lap-sized version of their northern ancestors. There are three varieties; Toy, Miniature, & Standard. The Toy measures up to 13 inches at the withers; the Miniature is over 13, up to and including 15; the Standard is over 15, up to and including 17 ½. On average, the AKK weigh approximately 10 – 20 pounds.

The AKK tend to be very reserved and have a hard time warming up to strangers. Because of this, it is HIGHLY recommended that they are exposed to many different every day circumstances from a young age. If you’re interested in the puppy but don’t have at least an hour a day to devote to exposing your little one to new experiences, this breed may not be the one for you.

"The AKK has a high energy level and, due to its heavy double coat, sheds continuously and “blows” coat twice a year.  Therefore an AKK may not be an ideal choice for everyone.  However, if in an appropriate home, the AKK can be a wonderful and loving companion.  Because of their size, these dogs can live in an apartment, but a home with at least a small, well-fenced yard is recommended. They should be exercised regularly, however, they are not as dependent on exercise as their larger relatives."
-Lenor Knapp

Our Story

My name is Patty Ramsburg and my daughter, Kimberley, and I started this journey in Feburary ’02 when Gail Compton placed little miss Zoe Danae into our arms. We will be forever grateful to Gail for trusting us with one of her very first babies, and miss her and her guidance tremendously.  They say those who live in the hearts of others never die and Gail will forever be in our hearts.
We call our family of dogs Serenity Cove. We moved to our new home in the country in June of 2004 with lots of space for the dogs. They are very happy living in the house with us and enjoy spending time in their very own playroom whenever we’re not home; however, they absolutely love their people and are always nearby when we’re home! Our lives are fueled on waggin’ tails, smiley faces, puppy kisses and some barking on occasion.
I currently have eight Klee Kai living here with me. Zoe, Kassia, Keegan, Lacee, Kambry, Kanon, Ava, Brylee, and our sheltie, Cooper, all spend their days rough housing down here in Southern, MD while Luka, Nicky, & Knox have chosen to go live with Kim and her boyfriend, Scott, up in the mountains of Western, MD. They have a little sister too, a Siberian Husky named Khanlie!
You’ll find out lots of little tidbits about our dogs during your visit here. If you have any questions, please ask. We had our first litter on March 11, 2004 and couldn't be more excited about future litters. Our dogs are family raised and well socialized. We are committed to a future of breeding quality puppies. Our #1 priority is our dogs and what is best for them.

We breed for health - temperament - conformation.

We have a waiting list full of great people and we'd love to add to it. We have three female AKK in our breeding program right now and hope to add another to the program in the near future. The health and well-being of our dogs are of utmost importance to us so therefore our plans may change at any time.
The wait for an AKK puppy can be long but it’s amazing how worthwhile the wait will be. You’ll never know until you bring that baby home and it steals your heart.  Enjoy your visit here and feel free to visit frequently!!
